This winter the floor of your garage will probably take another beating. There will be snow melting off your car, snow shovels, blowers, and plows. Along with this snow comes all the road salt and dirt. Leaving standing water on the floor or hosing it down periodically risks freezing after your car or equipment cool down, and freezing water risks damaging the floor especially if it’s in cracks. This article offers some good alternative suggestions.
- Use an old vacuum or broom and dustpan to sweep out solid debris.
- Mix dish detergent and water and mop the floor with a damp, not soaked, mop.
- Use laundry detergent instead, and with both of these dry mop the floor afterward to soak up excess water.
- Mix vinegar and water instead. Vinegar has a lower freezing temperature, so you won’t have to dry mop.
