Wouldn’t You Love to Have a Warm Room for Escaping Winter’s Chill?

Living rooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms, playrooms, family rooms – every home has a variety of specialty rooms. But have you ever heard of having awarm room – a room that’s designed specifically to be warm and cozy during the icy, bitter-cold days of winter?

Whether you’ve heard of a warm room or not, it sounds like a wonderful idea, doesn’t it? Especially if you’re one of the many people who just have trouble staying warm during winter months.

If your home has an unfinished basement, then it just so happens that you have the perfect place to create a warm room.

Basement Remodeling Can Include a Warm Room

Though it may seem counterintuitive – basements are often thought of as cold and clammy places – your unfinished basement is the perfect environment in which to create a warm room.

Because in truth, basements offer several unique environmental advantages that make them ideal locations for creating a warm and cozy space. Your basement, for example, is likely the best insulated part of your home. The walls, after all, are surrounded by earth, and sheltered from the blast of icy winter winds. And your basement space is sheltered and insulated from above by the entirety of your heated home.

And many basements already include a great source of heat: the furnace that heats the entire home. A basement remodeling project that includes a room which encloses the basement furnace can create a wonderfully cozy warm room.

Warm Room Tips

If you’re intrigued by the idea of having a warm room in your basement, here are a few tips for creating a warm room during the process of remodeling your basement:

  • Take advantage of pre-existing heat sources. As noted above, basements containing furnaces offer a great head start for creating a warm room. Incorporating the furnace into a room in an aesthetically pleasing manner can be challenging, but doable.
  • Add a fireplace. It’s frequently possible to install either a wood-burning or gas-burning fireplace during a basement remodel.
  • Route more heat into your warm room. Modify the ductwork during the remodeling process so that your heating system pumps plenty of heat into your warm room.
  • Install floor-level radiant heating. The concrete floors that are common in basements can be kept toasty-warm by installing a radiant heating system beneath the carpeting of your warm room.
  • Use warm colors. Painting and decorating a room with warm colors like red, orange and yellow can make a room seem warmer and cozier. Really!

Warm Is Wonderful…

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a place to go during winter where you’d always be comfortably warm? Though the winter may rage outside, and other rooms of your home remain perpetually uncomfortably cool, you could always be warm.

No more long winters of constantly struggling to stay warm.

Your unfinished basement may be cool and clammy now. But it has the potential to offer the warmest room in your home. TLC can make that a reality for you. And if you call now, we might even be able to have your warm room ready before the very first chill of winter sets in.
